project parallel at ghettogloss
Caroline and Silas’ remixed album was delicious and Brian’s mojitos sounded wonderful, or something like that. The Project Parallel videos on the wall I was distracted by collages and expensive strawberry-adorned knickers. Ghettogloss is full of fun and good ideas that I’m kicking myself for not having come up with. Us foreigners come here to come up with new stuff, right?
Eventually Irina tried to bite Noni’s finger off and there was a red-wine-white-dress incident: hometime already?

smart girls wear glasses
There was some Naughty Bodies filming going on in Echo Park recently, and all I can tell you is that it involved candy and stripping. A random neighbour across the street was invited to participate and skipped it to go and play golf — he missed out.
The evening then descended into flaming margaritas, Emmy parties, Juanita’s magical five dollars, Americans and Englishers swapping accents in dive bars, melodrama and trespassing in other people’s hot tubs, obviously. I don’t remember London properly anymore. Was it like this?

Just because your voice reaches halfway around the world doesn’t mean you are wiser than when it reached only to the end of the bar.

No commentshula stripping on skates is hard

Removing clothes while hula hooping on roller skates is difficult. Luckily I have exceptionally talented friends.
None of this reminded me to text the epitome of Essex girls that is Helly on her birthday, but somehow I remembered anyway. I heard some luke-warm gossip from the motherland, but she’s not replying.

charandalous back in echo park
Chari came back up to Echo Park from way down south to pose on the green rug at four in the morning. Whiskey Biscuit/Spindrift party at the 1269 Gallery — breaking, yelling, shirtlessness, more yelling, Indians, Englishers, people falling down on the skate ramp all night. There was a girl in a dress like mine except hers was metallic and she walked around all night with her arms sort of crossed to shove her boobs up under her chin.
(I wore my Westside Hussy dress — aiyayai! — and Julie looked cinematic — see below) then somehow made it home from deepest downtown in C’s pick up truck, three girls in mini dresses sprawled and singing, legs everywhere, in the front and two boys laid out in the back.

rachel and sally need a new roommate
The old one disappeared without paying rent. We live just off Sunset in Echo Park.

More pix as soon as I can get them.
pepper vodka sets my lips alight
Pepper vodka: birthday gift to self. Honey vodka: somehow included in pepper vodka. (Whoever decided putting my two favourite things together as one is a genius and can ask me anything; I mean it, go ahead.) I feel like I’m on vacation from my vacation (I’m still on vacation after four years, right? It’s still sunny, yeah?)
Anyway, summer’s not over ’til the Little Radio Summer Camp pix are done and I just fished out some Spindrift pix to prove it. Windswept Julie — gentlemen, control yourselves.

Why am I working right now? It’s a zillion degrees.
4 commentsbathroom mirror pouty self portrait time
I’m terrible at hair and make up. I never learnt to be properly girlie. So when I do randomly better than usual with mascara and lipstain and go out excited, then remember that I’m the only one who’ll get it and come home bored, I stand in front of the bathroom mirror and take a photograph to prove it really happened.
It’s entirely self indulgent, of course, but the light in there and the crazy yellow walls make for the best little grainy pix.
PS. I don’t smile. Ever. I’m very solemn. I’m right up there with Posh Spice in poutitude.
3 commentsgram rabbit at spaceland
Gram Rabbit played at Spaceland on the great American festival known as Labor Day.
Obviously, it involved Jesika von Rabbit wearing a fancy outfit, rabbit costumes, a woman called Poptart dancing in a bikini and a girl with amazing lipstick taking pictures.
Their new album’s called RadioAngel and the RoboBeat, which makes me think I should’ve made The Baron hold on to RoboAngel.com a little longer.
FACT — Miss Sally Fay Dalton was once in a Gram Rabbit video, you know.
1 commentlower heaven, waverley, crazy sally fay
Echo Park’s burdened by heatwaves, earthquakes and not-at-all-user-friendly RAW processing programs at the moment, so sleep has been hard to come by here at Countessian Towers. Luckily we have crazy li’l Sally Fay on hand to entertain us in the midst of our insomia:
PS: Lower Heaven and Waverly on Wednesday at Three of Clubs were fun.
