Another one for Utata’s Iron Photographer challenge.
The “Vanity Fair” shot is up on the Utata front page for the weekend, and I love the interpretation. The scenario the shot apparently depicts is so far from reality, I feel like I must’ve done a good job.
For Utata’s Iron Photographer challenge, which was to take a picture including something in a pocket and a title from the much-debated 1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die.
I did “Vanity Fair” first, which is pretty much cheating because it’s too obvious and easy, yeah?

I’d never been to Echo Curio before, despite it being five minutes from my house for the past year.
[For Prefix] Yacht, The Juan MacLean, Classixx, pretty people. This was the first show I’d ever shot using flash for every picture—fun!
I always think it’s strangely relaxing to go to über-Hollywood spots like The Roxy. I weirdly feel more comfortable there than in Echo Park, probably because I’m so impossibly out of place that I don’t feel like I have to try to fit in.
PS—Happy New Year. My studio is, according to some sources, Chinatown adjacent, which explains the firecrackers exploding gleefully outside my window. I like ‘em.
Some people have really good taste. Apparently the designer behind the LePhotique stuff, Jacqueline Sourvelis, is one of them.
They have Chicago transit map earrings, too. I think Jacqueline and Babygirl need to be friends.
Once upon a time, it was warm enough to wear flipflops at night. Thus attired, I ran around San Diego for two days taking pictures at Street Scene for NME.com, then forgot to post a bunch of them.
