It’s funny what you miss when you live far away from home for a few years, like stairs at tube stations.
Trash Talk played with Fucked Up at the Barfly in Camden on the day I arrived home in London. Good planning, kiddos.
October was probably the most mental month of shooting in my life, including Ray Jay and Gee waiting backstage in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Fuck Yeah Fest got renamed FYF Fest (I have it on dubious authority that, with the inexplicable extra F, the new name stands for Fuck Your Friends Fest) and took place outside in zillion degree heat, and I managed to slip in the bathroom old-lady style that morning and showed up with a concussion. During [...]
August was when I took pictures of Tearist for the first time (which was also my first shoot for Rocksound), but also when I got knocked about a bit by riot police and baby ravers at the aborted HARD Summer Fest. Met lots of really, really cheerful little kiddos before the cops busted in, though. [...]
Babygirl Garcia turned 21 in July 2009 and, after the most glorious of all Videothing projections, Michael did crazy dancing and I took a picture.
In June I shot 17 bands one weekend. Yikes. Peaches at the Henry Fonda was shot for Prefix.
A funny little Echo Park photoshoot.
Shooting Coachella for the first time was one of the best weekends of my life. [Shot for Prefix]
In March half of Los Angeles packed up and went to Austin for SXSW 2009. I got so little sleep I eventually went mental from exhaustion puked in a bush in Waterloo Park during Mess with Texas. On the plus side, though, the girl from Pre wore green tights at Mohawk. Nice.
In February I did a shoot with Dita Dimoné.
First show of the year, Carl Barat and Glasvegas at the Troubadour. Very upsetting lighting. Most discouraging. [Shot for NME.com]
I had a fantastic few days, but this was the absolute best bit. Merry Christmas.
Another print for sale.
I’ve been in love with Juanita’s gigantic bow for months, so she gave it to me for Xmas. Wonderful!
Countessianism for your very own home! I’m getting the old shop up and running again. I’ll add more each day. Go get ‘em. Tell yer friends.
My favourite portrait client came in for a shoot the other day, and I taught him how to use Photo Booth.
Videothing.com and I Hate Rock ‘n’ Roll threw a party on a rainy night in Wendy’s garage in Highland Park. Teresa made peppermint white chocolate stars for Hanukkah. Cowabunga Babes (all the way from Austin), Christmas Island, Le Face and Woah Hunx all played. Then the cops showed up and danced outside in the rain [...]
A coffin at the British Museum. When I die, you know what to do. From the British Museum’s website: The Ga people live in the south-east coast of Ghana, including Accra the capital city. They revere their ancestors and give great importance to funeral celebrations. From the early 1950s they became well-known for developing a [...]
I shot the opening party for the lovely new Rolling Greens shop in Hollywood last week, and Sophia went mental with the secateurs. More pictures of beautiful stuff you can buy there once I get through my six-month processing backlog.
Before I left Los Angeles, the weather forecast said I might see snow at home in England, but I didn’t. I did find hundreds of old pictures at my parents’ house and scan them, though.
I can’t sleep so I’m watching the BBC World Service and processing old pictures of Trash Talk playing on a skate ramp in someone’s back yard in Los Angeles. (There was quite a bit of blood.)
