american spelling

I didn’t write this; I found it between layers of my clothes on someone else’s bedroom floor in a foreign country.

I thought a lot about what to do and then decided that seeing as it was tucked in among my belongings it wouldn’t be entirely unreasonable for me to take it and keep it secret for years and years and not show anyone until now, when I’m much older and and it’s been so long that I sort of can’t remember being hopelessly infatuated any more.

I found it the other day and had completely forgotten it but somehow kept it with me through, I think, eight house moves and one change of continent. I was looking for something else entirely, and it was so strange to find this.

living well is the best revenge

(Meanwhile, I’ve been shooting lots of little shows: Pope Anything and Har Mar Superstar at Three of Clubs, Harlem, Smith Westerns and Pearl Harbor at Madam Wong’s, and so on. I wasn’t wearing any of the above finery at the time, thank God.)

wisdom teeth!

They were pretty impacted, as you can see.

I liked it, because a) it made for a good x-ray, and of course I care about the photos more than anything else, and b) I lived on butternut squash soup and Persian ice cream for a week after the surgery.

trash talk tree jumper

I like Trash Talk. People jump out of trees for them. (LA, last summer.)

(I think I was in a tree taking pictures/trying not to die, too. I’m pretty sure they’re the only band I’ve ever climbed a tree for. I hate climbing trees.)

Oh yeah. Later on there was blood, but I already posted a bunch of the other shots ages ago. Enjoy.

more from the #704

I’m getting a whole bunch of these. They need a lot of work but it’s a start, and it keeps my brain ticking over, and when I don’t live in Los Angeles anymore I’ll miss Santa Monica Boulevard, I’m sure.

The set so far…

nodzzz and animal style at dig in

IMG_6208.JPG

LAist has pictures I took on a rainy night in Highland Park.

And then some of them showed up here, too:

And then, of course, there’s the Videothing coverage, in which I was employed to flash my speedlight as crazily as possible so that the super-special new slow-mo effect can be used.

NO CANCER!

One of the most fun days I’ve ever had the pleasure to shoot, and also an event that made me really proud of my friends and their friends.

The amount of imagination, effort and talent that was on display is sort of making me a little bit teary to look back on, so I’m going to shush and just show yous the pictures instead.

animal style (or, “priorities”)

True story: So, the other night I saw my friend’s new band, Animal Style, for the first time. I took pictures, duh.

I got home several hours later, after some wine and some whiskey, and reviewed my shots and was reasonably pleased with them. Then I saw that my friend was online so I said to him “Hey, I really like your new band!”

He said, “Yeah? I didn’t think we sounded that good tonight.”

I really enthusiastically replied “Well, yeah, but the pictures look great! Those two kids have great hair!”

Real talk, kids.

[Edit: They actually are good. ]
