No commentsfriendly fires at the el rey
I always like it when I get to shoot visiting compatriots, even if they do always ask what’s wrong with my weird half-Essex-half-LA accent.
You can see more pictures on NME.com and see video interviews on Laura’s NME blog.
1 commentutata front page for me and alice glass
I love getting the Utata Front Page, because I like it when Greg writes about my pictures and says things like “passion is never abstract, though it’s often indecipherable.”
(Alice Glass shot at the HARD Haunted Mansion hallowe’en party in Los Angeles, for Prefix.)
No commentslykke li, friendly fires, grand ole party and mae shi on nme.com
I have a bunch of shots from the Lykke Li/Friendly Fires/Grand Ole Party/Mae Shi show at the El Rey on NME.com at the moment.
The gallery’s here…
…and some other shots are with Laura’s excellent write up and video interviews here.
Enjoy!

I always enjoy shooting Lykke Li. This one was a long day, but lots of fun and some nice pictures.
(For NME.)
She had Friendly Fires join her for a song:
No commentsghostland observatory at street scene
I really didn’t know anything about Ghostland Observatory until I was at Street Scene for NME.com with a hole in my schedule and read about the cape and the braids and legged it to where they were playing.
No commentsgogol bordello on nme.com, via countessian
This one makes me really happy, because I LOVE GOGOL BORDELLO.
It really was a dance frenzy, too. I should actually take a picture of my feet, because I’ve never had bruises like it.
I worked the hardest I’d ever done in my life for my time in the pit because there were so many elements to photograph and I had no idea how long they’d let me stay there for — they were splitting photographers into groups, although the one security minion within earshot kept affecting a “huh? what? i don’t know, i just work here!” expression whenever anyone tried to ask him what was going on, so no one was able to confirm that whether those of us who weren’t escorted in would get access at all…
I put up a bit of a fuss (a sweet-smiley-ladylike fuss, but a fuss nonetheless) and got let in, and then when I was in there the boss security bloke felt it necessary to tap me on the shoulder twice and yell in my ear “If you move, I’ll kick you out!”
I stood as still as I possibly could while shooting like mad, frantically trying to get as much variety as I could from my spot at the very corner of the stage. It was probably my craziest shooting experience. I remember vaguely realising that I couldn’t feel my right hand (I was in a minor bus accident the night before, on my way to the T.I./Kanye West/Rihanna show — God, that’s a surreal sentence), but not daring to stop shooting for a second.
Once my time was up, the whole thing had been such a crazed kerfuffle that I just legged it into the crowd and danced like the world was about to end for the next two hours, because amazingly I wasn’t scheduled to shoot anything that conflicted.
(You can read all about Detour — proper info written by someone who presumably went armed with a notebook, as opposed to the fevered ramblings of a photographer who came home covered in bruises with whiskey in her hair — on NME.com.
And, you can see more of my shots on Prefix here (The Mars Volta, Presets, Hercules & Love Affair, Bitter Sweet, Grand Ole Party, Black Lips) and here (Gogol Bordello, Mae Shi, Mugison, Datarock, Submarines).
No commentsT.I., Rihanna and Kayne West at the key club
T.I.’s record release show for “Paper Trail” at the Key Club was super duper fun, and included unannounced guest performances by Kanye West and Rihanna.
(These were all for Prefix, as you can probably tell. Click that link to read a little about the show and see more shots.)
